project/ cultural literacy

Over this semester my definition of literacy have expanded. I still feel that there is no set definition it is constantly changing. I decided to explore digital scrapbook because I felt that my prior knowledge with pictures would be able to give me a solid start, at least the foundation. I feel that today pictures play an important role in the families life in preserving important moments in their lives. In different culture literature is shown in many ways. I found my project so far challenging because I am using my own photos and trying to match it up to the text, but because of my love for picture and tying it in to my family made the challenge worthwhile. In my observation of different classrooms I’ve notice that projects, which includes the students brining in pictures from home, are often successful. In planning ahead I would have a few picture of the students available on our class page. In my kindergarten class much technology is not used, but with guidance and scaffolding I know that it can be done. I have not observed my class during their computer time, so I am clueless about where they are really with technology. I would love to introduce children at this early age to digital scrap booking. I feel that it would be similar to some of their games I’ve seen on the pbs webs site. I feel that this project can help with their writing, and comprehension especially if exploring different cultures. This would be a good way for them to use their wild words/ high frequency words, and comprehension strategies. I feel that for me right now it can get overwhelming trying to use all the features that are available to complete my project. I also feel that it can be a tremendous accomplishment creating a class project like this for a diverse classroom
